As Empowered vol. 1 features many, many (very) short stories, by this point I was already growing leery of having too many “metatextual” title pages in the collection. (For the record, some readers appreciated Emp’s “fourth-wall breakery,” while others really did not.) After this story, I switched over to chapter-break illustrations roughly modeled after the ones seen in manga tankoubon collections, before eventually deciding to alternate between illos and “meta Emp” pages throughout the rest of the series.
