Here, we see an early hint that Emp can, in fact, be quite the superheroic badass when she’s finally able to stop overthinking and compulsively obsessing over her insecurities and shortcomings. In time, I assure you, readers will find her to be a very different superchica than “the voluptuous, cling-wrapped pile of neuroses” (as one critic unkindly put it) that she might seem to be in these early Empowered chapters. Her heroic progress might, however, seem fairly incremental for the next few hundred pages or so. As I’ve said here before, I’m all about “the long game” with this series, folks.
