Panel 1: Yeahp, in case you forgot the Empowered vol. 1 story that recounted Sistah Spooky’s origin, in high school she did indeed sell her soul for hotness, but wound up with far more magical power than beauty. In fact, the current miniseries Empowered and Sistah Spooky’s High School Hell, written by me and drawn by the great Carla Speed McNeil, deals with the long-term consequences of this fateful Faustian bargain. (Note, however, that this miniseries is chock fulla SPOILERS for those reading this series only as a webcomic.)

Panel 2: For some ineffable reason, I always found the 10-sided die to be one of the more aesthetically appealing dice from my bygone days of role-playing games. Gotta say, while I’ve often heard the 10-sider referred to as a decahedron, I didn’t fully grasp that it could also be defined in more technical terms, per Wikipedia:

“The pentagonal trapezohedron or deltohedron is the third in an infinite series of face-transitive polyhedra which are dual polyhedra to the antiprisms. It has ten faces (i.e., it is a decahedron) which are congruent kites.”

Panel 3: As we’ll see down the road, this bit about Spooky’s “true form” constitutes a PLOT POINT of sorts later on in vol. 4, but features some weirdly flawed assumptions that I’ll address at that time.
