We continue serialization of the collected edition of the six-issue 2018 miniseries Empowered and Sistah Spooky’s High School Hell, written and laid out by me and featuring art and lettering by Guest Artist Carla “Speed” McNeil and coloring by Jenn Manley Lee.

Presumably Emp is pronouncing "gantlet" as "gant-let", as opposed to "gaunt-let", to make the difference clear. This is, it seems, a pronunciation that is far from universally used (to put it mildly); OTOH, this riff was based on the rants of a friend of mine who was very, very insistent on the pronunciation difference.

UPDATE: Aggravatingly enough, this very pronunciation issue is addressed in the story's next page. (In my meager defense, I haven't read this miniseries since I looked over proofs for the collection in 2018.)
