Pew Pew Pew! p.3

We continue serialization of the 2015 one-shot Empowered: Pew Pew Pew!, written and drawn by yours truly.

As I mentioned yesterday, the "font size" of my hand lettering on this decade-old story now strikes me as a fair bit too large. (Obvsly, the term "font size" arguably implies either typesetting or computer-based lettering, but let's ignore that matter for the time being.) Excessively if not obnoxiously small font sizes are normally the bane of modern comics lettering, so I was mildly surprised to find that I found this lettering to be unpleasantly oversized in retrospect. (In fact, at some point in this one-shot I'll likely work up some variant jpegs with the text scaled down to proportions I find more aesthetically pleasing.)

The good thing, I suppose, about overlarge lettering like this is that the font size prevents me from "overdialoguing" a panel or page; of course, one should avoid that tendency as a writer regardless of the g-d font size.

More on this scintillating matter tomorrow, folks!

Today’s Patreon update: Originally done as a means of scratching out more worktime to complete the long-gestating Empowered vol. 12, I've switched over to a Monday/ Wednesday/ Friday Patreon posting schedule that won't feature the fixed content format I previously used. However, my vast archive of years of Patreon posts—extensive Empowered previews, work-in-progress updates on developmental projects such as fantasy comics The Chaste and the Chained and The Last Party, vintage con sketches, work stages on covers, "damsel in distress" commissions, life drawings & much, much more—remains available for Patrons' perusal.
