We continue serialization of the collected version of the three-issue 2017 miniseries Empowered and the Soldier of Love, written and laid out by me and featuring full-color artwork by the Chilean webcomic artist Karla Diaz.
Panels 4-5: Ehh, the overlapping of panel 4's longshot with panel 5's closer-up shot of El Soldado creates a bit of a lettering problem, as the inattentive reader might well skip directly over from panel 4's "LET ME EXPLAIN" word balloon to panel 5's "--WHICH I WILL THEN" balloon, missing out on panel 4's next-in-reading-order "SENOR PANGOLIN IS" balloon. Moving "LET ME EXPLAIN" all the way to the left might have helped, or I could've asked for a balloon tail connecting the two word balloons in panel 4, though that likely would've looked very awkward indeed.
To be clear, though, I roughed out this page and spotted the copy placement myself, so both artist Karla Diaz and letterer Nate Piekos are wholly blameless on this matter. ("Oops/ Oopsie," to quote Pitch Meeting.)
Today’s Patreon update: Originally done as a means of scratching out more worktime to complete the long-gestating Empowered vol. 12, I've switched over to a Monday/ Wednesday/ Friday Patreon posting schedule that won't feature the fixed content format I previously used. So, who knows what today's post might feature? Could be Life Drawing or Distressed Damsels content (both of which are featured at least three times per month), or something in the Work Stages, Vintage Con Sketches or Design departments, or possibly something entirely new, such as updates on fantasy test projects The Last Party and The Chaste and the Chained. Golly!
