I rather like panel 4’s bit with the Demonwolf referring to Emp as a “filthy blonde monkey,” a particular disparagement that I’m fairly sure I never used again in subsequent Empowered stories. Also, as will be made clear on the next page, the power-draining bondage gear Emp uses here dates back to an earlier story, wherein our heroine narrowly escaped getting carried off to an alien emperor’s harem. This is an early example of how casually introduced, throwaway plot elements in one Empowered sequence would help inspire a subsequent story; and thus, bit by accreting bit, did the series slowly grow deeper and more complex. (Note that I did say “slowly,” by the way.)
