Looking back over these early, 2005-to-2006-era Empowered pages, I’m often fairly critical of the artwork, as this was a timeframe in which my art style was plagued by several now-repudiated tendencies, such as the aforementioned Excessively Big, Pouty Lips and the Mysteriously intermittent Post-Millennial Torso Glitch. Then again, this was a time when I’d hoped to not be drawing at all, as I’d wanted to transition to a writing-only role in comics. (That hope, needless to say, didn’t work out.) I was only drawing Empowered in the first place because I couldn’t dig up another artist who would work as cheaply and quickly as myself.

So, I should probably cut poor, hardworking-if-sloppy 2005-Era Me some slack, right? Must admit, this particular page features some pretty solid close-up shots that have held up reasonably well during the intervening decade. You’re not all bad, 2005-Era me!
