Panel 3: I suspect but cannot confirm that both KLUDD and WHOKK are sound FX borrowed from the onomatopoeic oeuvre of vintage Frank Miller, circa Daredevil: Born Again. (Note that the term “onomatopoeic oeuvre” represents an accidental alliteration worthy of the Blazing-Eyed Devilgoat himself.) Miller had a unique gift for coining sound FX that worked perfectly with my peculiarly blinkered and idiosyncratic perception of what constitutes viable FX. Alas, I can report that one such FX he coined for a Born Again scene of Matt Murdock working a punching bag has not aged gracefully in the intervening decades; that would be the unfortunate coinage of, well, “FAPP.”
