Panel 1: Not entirely sure about this point, but this Empowered vol. 3 story might represent the first time Ninjette is depicted with a “ninja sword” and sheath. 

Panel 3: Continuing with the very likely geographically inappropriate references, I wrote this line during a summer when mosquito-borne Eastern Equine Encephalitis was a big issue—or, at least, a local-media-hyped issue—in New England.

Panel 6: For those of you who care about such things, note that Emp’s supersuit is pretty close to intact on this page. As I’ve said many times before, I rarely depict her suit fully intact nowadays because A) the "hypermembrane" is visually boring in such a condition and B) drawing the full supersuit wears out my drawing hand very quickly.
