Panel 2’s “Beats So Lonely” bit playing in the background is an acknowledgement that this party entrance scene is a bit of a reference to the “Duncan crashes the party” sequence from 1987’s John Hughes-produced Some Kind Of Wonderful, a movie I liked a great deal in the late 80s that I’ve never spoiled by watching again as a (putative) grown-up.

Inappropriately enough, I made a second reference to “Duncan crashes the party” almost a decade later, when a certain character notes “I don’t think that’ll be necessary” at a climactic moment in a later volume. (No SPOILERS, please, print-comic readers.) What can I say, folks; I really liked that scene, okay?
