Panel 1: An early appearance of the subtle visual riff of "white-out trails from eye highlights" here, if you look closely at the big close-up of Ninjette. That's something I've borrowed off and on from manga for 30-odd years, though I only started using in truly in earnest relatively late in this series.
Note also the slight upward angle on the panel gutter, a riff which appears only rarely in Empowered, as I usually base the page layouts from a squared-off "grid page" template that's lined up with marks at fifths, quarters, thirds, halves and miscellaneous distances between. Anyhoo, back in the day when I drew "real" comic pages for mainstream publication, I would constantly angle the gutters to "cheat" a little more space for specific panels. Here, I raised the right side pf the gutter to make a li'l more space available for the tier of panels below.
