Panel 1: With the shuriken, here, I briefly addressed the fact that the projectile would be spinning as it flew. Most of the time, though, I don’t bother depicting that rotation, as adding another set of circular “spin lines” muddies up the motion and—to my eye, at least—seems to slow down the perceived speed of the shuriken’s flight.

Panel 3: I vividly recall that my first take on the Badass Sundress Waif’s action pose in this panel showed her landing with knees wide apart and katana slashing straight down, resulting in an image that looked laughably, even ludicrously phallic. This final version, needless to say, was a vast improvement.

Panel 6: And lo, just as I mentioned in panel 1, here I’m quite deliberately not bothering to show the shuriken’s rotation; doing so here, I think, would absolutely have muddied up the action too much.

Today’s Patreon update: We’re very likely continuing serialization of the Twitter-format prose experiment I Am Empowered, which tells heretofore untold tales of Emp’s earliest misadventures from her first-person POV.
