Note that Distressed Emp's pose is a fairly direct homage to the opening shot of the titular superheroine in peril from the fairly infamous 1978 comic Spider-Woman #5, a story which is a big frickin' deal in old-school "damsel in distress" circles. I've done rather a few—okay, rather many—"DiD" commissions based on that sequence, which indirectly led to the genesis of this very series; so, porting a reference directly into this comic seemed like not much of a stretch.
Next week on the webcomic, table-turning is unquestionably afoot, though readers might not anticipate exactly how said table-turning is achieved...
Today’s Patreon update: In an attempt to scratch out more worktime to
complete the long-gestating Empowered vol. 12, I've switched over
to a Monday/ Wednesday/ Friday Patreon posting schedule that won't feature the
fixed content format I previously used. So, who knows what today's post
might feature? Could be Life Drawing or Distressed Damsels
content (both of which are featured at least three times per month), or
something in the Work Stages, Vintage Con Sketches or Design
departments, or possibly something entirely new. Golly!
