Panel 2: Flip phone ahoy! Also, urban park alert, as this is one of my favorite Empowered settings to draw, as the roughed-in trees in the background are very, very easy to draw, while still giving an arguably false impression that I put more effort into the scene’s BG work than I really did. And yeahp, this is the same park where Ninjette and Emp first met back in Empowered vol. 1.

Panel 3: “Daisy” is a super-duper-obscure reference to the name of a dog owned by some good friends of mine I stayed with whilst “couch-surfing” back in the 90s. I should note that the real-life Daisy was an Australian shepherd, not an Afghan wolfhound as seen here. Why did I choose a wolfhound for this doggie, might you ask? Well, you’ll see why in a page or two.
