Panel 1: The joints on that spacesuit’s fingers are a distant callback to visual riffs I borrowed long, long ago from a single g-d panel of a Landmate mecha in Shirow Masamune’s manga Appleseed vol.4. Very important and personally influential panel, that one.

Panel 2: A classic vertical-panel layout, here: Stick a character at the bottom of a tall, skinny panel as a visual riff emphasizing their loneliness and isolation. Arguably a bit clichéd, tbh, but if something works, then why not use it, folks?

Panel 5: Really not thrilled with the inclusion of the neologism “lachyrmotize,” here. (Spun off from the crying-related terms “lachrymose” or “lachrymatory,” natch.) Detracts from the emotional intensity of moment a fair bit; and beyond that point, Spooky doesn’t seem anywhere near as prone to coining neologisms as Emp, so that seems a tad off, too. Oh, well.
