Volume 11 Page 48

With this week's commentaries, I'll attempt to revisit the workflow stoppage that occurred twenty-odd pages ago when I suddenly became myself unable to force Artist Me to draw any more pages of finished artwork for the book, which luckily hadn't yet "gone on the schedule" and thus made an indefinite pause in production possible.

As I mentioned yesterday, the Empowered vol. 11 production shutdown wasn't about drawing in general, as I was cranking out sets of life drawings from photoreference on a near-daily basis at the time. Rather, the issue was a sudden and complete lack of interest in producing finished artwork for the comic, which didn't seem to have occurred because of the particular page that I was drawing at the time, a page that doesn't seem especially onerous in retrospect. I'm pretty sure that I must have tried the obvious workaround of skipping ahead to drawing pages from a different sequence later on in the book, but this desperate effort apparently didn't work for very long; months later, when I just as abruptly found myself able to draw finished artwork again, I wound up drawing pages from three separate points in the volume more or less simultaneously due to this earlier scheme.

More on this matter tomorrow, folks!

Today’s Patreon update: Originally done as a means of scratching out more worktime to complete the long-gestating Empowered vol. 12, I've switched over to a Monday/ Wednesday/ Friday Patreon posting schedule that won't feature the fixed content format I previously used. However, my vast archive of years of Patreon posts—extensive Empowered previews, work-in-progress updates on developmental projects such as fantasy comics The Chaste and the Chained and The Last Party, vintage con sketches, work stages on covers, "damsel in distress" commissions, life drawings & much, much more—remains available for Patrons' perusal.
