Don’t really care for the “big head, narrow shoulders” cartoony look of Metatextual Emp, here. This was probably a deliberate stylistic flourish on 2007-ish Me’s part, but might’ve also been driven by the fact that I didn’t “draw through” her figure—that is, I roughed in the sketch cropped off at the lower border, rather than drawing her more fully on a separate piece of paper to ensure better figure proportions.
Moreover, dunno why the hell I didn’t draw Emp’s shoulders as part of her third image, here; I might’ve been worried about her shoulder hitting the right-side bleed, perhaps. Anyhoo, the result is that she appears as if she has a really long neck. Ouch.
So far, this volume’s been impressively free of the “Damsel in Distress” trope and its related kinkiness, which was indeed the dubious—if accidental—origin of the entire series. Wellp, the ol’ “DiD” content is about to return with a vengeance during the next few stories, alas. Sorry ’bout that, Emp.
