Panel 1: Drawing characters’ hands while they’re reacting to something shocking can be quite tricky, as one tends to repeat the same “hand poses” that actually work to convey alarm. Problem is, these workable images tend to become conspicuously repetitive over time, unless you’re careful about their (over)use. 

This panel’s “hand poses” on Emp are a slightly odd mix, but I probably thought that using different gestures for each hand would provide a little more interest than drawing both hands displaying the same gesture.
