Panel 2: Regarding that ginormous ribbon on Maidman’s costume, no doubt he would justify that with a declaration of “I LIKE BIG BOWS AND I CANNOT LIE!”

In both panels 2 and 4, you can see a bit of figure-drawing laziness on my part when I’m drawing Emp next to a much taller male character. In the interests of getting the panels finished as quickly as possible, I wound up drawing Maidman and Hardkore essentially just on a different scale, without checking overall figure proportions. That’s why, if you check where the bottoms of their respective pelvises would be, those body part locations are actually placer lower than on the much shorter Emp’s figures; thus, these two fellows must have very, very short legs holding up elongated upper bodies. Whoops!

An obvious way to get around this kind of drawing error is, as I’ve mentioned before, to sketch the full figures of Emp and the male characters on a separate sheet of paper, then transfer that rough to the final art board. Problem is, that exemplary practice is notably more time-consuming than just sketching the cut-off figures within the panel borders, as I did here—and getting pages done quickly is what Empowered is all about, folks. Or at least that was the case, until recent volumes in which the art grew tighter and arguably more accomplished, but also wound up getting produced far more slowly.  A difficult balance, ahoy!
