Panel 1: Ah, yes, “Criss Angel,” a pop-culture reference that will surely never, ever lose its relevance! Then again, no point in living in absolute fear of references that might not age well, IMHO; some comic-writer friends of mine have espoused that one should aim for “timelessness” in one’s scripts, but I find that concern to be overstated at best. Most American comics being written today will be forgotten within a few years, let alone a decade later, so worries about about posterity are, I think, a tad overblown. (That said, here we are reading a comic written a decade ago.)

Of course, there’s also no point in excessively larding one’s scripts with pop-culture references that will already be growing stale by the time the comic sees print.

Panel 3: End of semi-metatextual tactical rant!

Today’s Patreon update: Open slot in the weekly schedule today! Not sure what I’ll be posting, but something will go up today. I’ve been posting every weekday (sometimes multiple times per day) on this Patreon for over a year, so why stop now?
