Panel 1: For some unknown reason, I was hearing a lot of John Sterling’s almost ululating “ThHhHhuHhHhHh Yankees WIN!” radio calls a decade ago, and apparently that was grating on me at the time. (Not that Susan Waldman’s perpetual Edith Bunker imitation was much of an improvement.) But given that I hardly ever hear such John Sterling calls any more, gotta admit that nowadays I find them more vaguely amusing than anything else.

Panel 3: Gotta say that I do like the figurative manga-style visual riff of the flowers at the bottom of the page being spiced up with a few ninja shuriken (appropriately enough). Also, note that this concept was based on a long-ago con sketch of Ninjette and Emp having switched costumes, which I think appeared as a bonus illo in the back matter of Empowered vol. 2 (or maybe 3). Alas, I can’t check on that right now, as I’m typing this commentary on my laptop in the dark after a thunderstorm-induced power outage and have no online access.
