Note that the previous page's last line from present-day Spooky to Emp ended with a reference to "a little taste of how our field really works", setting up a rather on-the-nose scene transition to this flashback's opening image. Subtle! As I mentioned last Friday, I'm not especially fond of such flashy and/or "cute" dialogue-based transitions, but occasionally feel like I should try one out.

This page's content is a callback to yet another flashback from back in Empowered vol. 5, but I don't feel like digging up the link, as Mindf**k covers the same territory quite adequately in this sequence.
