Next week on the webcomic serialization, brace for a sudden scene jump arguably worthy of Empowered vol. 7 in its sheer abruptness!

In fact, panel 5 is a bit of an old-school Alan Moore transition, as Spooky's line of dialogue re: "taste" sets up a visual pun of sorts in the scene that follows. (Once again, the webcomic's weekend break doesn't help my storytelling very much.)

Then again, as wildly influential as Moore's work on Swamp Thing was to my early development as a creator, gotta say that his arguably incessant use of "cute" dialogue transitions like this between scenes came to grate on me after a while. I appreciated the cleverness, of course, but after a while I'd find myself thinking,"Can you just do a vanilla scene transition, please? PLEASE?" (That said, I'm well aware that many of you readers are no doubt just as bugged by my own narrative idiosyncrasies.)
