Panel 2: Years before I wrote and drew this story, this panel's striking shot was, for me, the defining image of Empowered vol. 8's future climactic act—that is, the image of a silhouetted, maimed, dying Spooky desperately struggling to heal herself as her losing battle against a legion of cyclopean beasties reached its finale.
In fact, I'd originally planned to burn a few pages on an extended "camera pull-back" to show that, for all her spectacular, superpowered spell-slinging, Spooky was just a teeny, tiny mote in a fairly literal sea of these ginormous, implacable monsters, which would've been shown as extending back for miles from the battleground area.
Panel 4: Alas, thanks to the vagaries of webcomic serialization, you'll have to wait until Monday to see what Spooky should've done, as it occurs to me that we're on the verge of witnessing a COUNTER-FACTUAL SCENARIO nested within another COUNTER-FACTUAL SCENARIO.
Today’s Patreon update: In an attempt to scratch out more worktime to
complete the long-gestating Empowered vol. 12, I've switched over
to a Monday/ Wednesday/ Friday Patreon posting schedule that won't feature the
fixed content format I previously used. So, who knows what today's post
might feature? Could be Life Drawing or Distressed Damsels
content (both of which are featured at least three times per month), or
something in the Work Stages, Vintage Con Sketches or Design
departments, or possibly something entirely new. Golly!
