Panel 1: Not surprisingly, 'twas ol' Capitan Rivet ringing up Emp in yesterday's page; as I noted then, not a huge surprise, as I don't believe that Emp addresses anyone else in the series as "sir."

Also, the idea of an alien portal system featuring a registered trademark symbol amuses me perhaps more than it should. Note: Please avoid copyright infringement of apocalyptically powerful alien beings.

Panel 3: As I vaguely recall from a similar riff in Carla Speed McNeil's great SF comic Finder, 'twould arguably make more sense to use the "index finger & pinkie" telephonic gesture (UPDATE: I meant "thumb & pinkie gesture"; oops) to indicate mainly the initiation and/or termination of a call, but I chose to maintain the gesture throughout the conversation as additional visual emphasis for clarity's sake.
