We continue serialization of the collected edition of the six-issue 2018 miniseries Empowered and Sistah Spooky’s High School Hell, written and laid out by me and featuring art and lettering by Guest Artist Carla “Speed” McNeil and coloring by Jenn Manley Lee.

Gotta say, I do tend to prefer the John-Workman-like lettering riff of dropping out the panel outline when a word balloon abuts it, as seen in panels 3 and 4 but not in panels 1 and 2. (This is often used not so much for visual appeal but to allow the letterer to cram text into a smaller space without butting into a panel border, even though that's actually not what Carla did here, as you can see if you examine panels 3 & 4 closely.)
