I’m finding it a tad challenging to dredge up much to say about these chapter-break illustrations, alas. I like the idea behind this particular illo, which is a bit more imaginative than many of these title pages, but am distracted by flaws in the actual drawing of Emp herself. The mask-covered part of her cranium is oversized and oddly shaped, and her shoulders are proportionally way too small in relation to her head—but other than that, the drawing is flawless! Ughh. (Or, as Emp would put it, “Sigh.”)
