In panels 1, 2 and 5, I’m impressed by Past-Tense Me’s use of “visual thought balloons,” a storytelling flourish that rarely appears in later Empowered volumes, mainly because I had entirely forgotten about it. I especially appreciate the panels where Thugboy’s overheated visions of Emp crowd out the real world; that’s a surprisingly neat visual metaphor that I definitely need to revisit in future volumes. (Sadly, this is such a neat visual metaphor that I very likely borrowed it from another comic or manga, but at present I cannae quite recall if that’s the case or not.)
