When I drew the initial iteration of this story over a decade(!) ago, the fashion trend of “bold print across the backside of girls’ shorts” was just reaching my rather remote and less-than-au-courant neck of the woods. I immediately decided to employ this riff for the new kunoichi (female ninja) character introduced here, with the joke being that nothing could be less stealthy than plastering her ninja status on the most eye-catching part of her costume. (I didn’t get around to having Ninjette directly address said joke until many volumes later, alas.)
