Panel 1: Nice Pouty Emp, gotta say—though this shot doesn’t feature a Big Pouty Lips Emp, you’ll notice. (The ol’ Big Pouty Lips just don’t lend themselves very well to facial expressiveness, I’m afraid.)
Panel 2: Rare appearance of the “solid black eyes” visual riff, here, without the gray-shaded “open iris” look I generally use, as seen in all the other Ninjette shots on this page.
Panel 3: Ehh, sorry, folks, no time to dig up my notes on Ninjette’s clan skewing Shintoist rather than the Buddhism more often seen in depictions of ninja clans.
Panel 5: I do love my silent reaction shots, needless to say. They’re the best, IMHO, if you can spare the page space for ’em; problem is, the cramped confines of mainstream American comics’ increasingly limited pagecount doesn’t enable much usage of this riff. (Note: 20 story pages per issue is now standard at Marvel & DC, as opposed to the standard-until-recently 22 pages—and even the latter always struck me as annoyingly confining, as I “came up” in indie comics during the late 80s and early 90s with 24 pages per issue as the norm.)Today’s Patreon update: Open slot in the weekly
